Hugh Hall was the sixth child of Barbara Wilson & James Hall born c1816 in Cowpen, Northumberland. No record of Hugh's birth has yet been found.
Hugh married Isabella Anderson/Thorburn on Dec 17th 1839 in South Hetton. Isabella born in Walker/North Shields, & was christened April 8th, 1821 at Christ Church, Tynemouth in Northumberland, the daughter of Elizabeth Anderson & Robert Thoburn.
In 1841 Hugh & Isabella & 8 month old daughter Barbara were living at Colliery Row, South Hetton where Hugh was a coal miner.
In 1851 Hugh’s widowed mother, Barbara (Barbery in census) was living with him a miner, & his wife Isabella & their 2 sons (James 5 & William 2) & 2 daughters (Barbara 10 & Elizabeth (8)) at Wingate, Co Durham. Hugh continued to work as a coal miner.
Hugh & Isabella were living at Chapel Chare, Wingate in 1861. Sons James & William were working as coal miners like their father & daughter Elizabeth was still at home. There were 3 more children – Jane (9), Hugh (6) & Isabella (3).
Daughter Jane married John Guy Davison, a coal miner, in October 1870 in Monk Hesledon. Jane was widowed by 1891 & working as an office cleaner in Monk Hesledon. Her husband was injured in a fall of stone while working at Castle Eden Colliery & died in November 1887. Jane had 11 children but it was noted in 1911 that only 4 were still living.
The family were still in Wingate in 1871 & at home were James, William & Hugh, all miners like their father, & daughter Isabell.
Son James married Mary Emma Barker in 1873. The 1911 census shows widowed James, Mary having died in 1908, living at North Rd, Wingate. He was a retired miner & with him were 4 granddaughters – children of his daughter Elizabeth who had married Mark Hugall.
In 1881 Hugh & Isabella were still living in Chapel Chare, Wingate & Hugh was still a coal miner. At home were Hugh, Isabell & visiting was Barbara Curry, a 41 year old widow. This was daughter Barbara who had married William Curry in 1859 & whose death occurred in 1880.
Son Hugh married Sarah Jane Price in December 1881 in Wingate. The 1911 census shows widowed Hugh still living in Wingate & working as a pumping engineman underground at the colliery. Five of his children were still at home & it was noted that Hugh & Sarah Jane had had 14 children!
Daughter Isabella also married in 1881in Wingate. She married John William Partridge, a fruiterer & greengrocer. They were to have 6 children before Isabella’s death in 1906.
By 1891 Hugh was living on ‘permanent relief fund’ & he & Isabella were living at Wingate Rd, Castle Eden.
Hugh died aged 78, & was buried on December 4th 1893 at Wingate.
Isabella died at Castle Eden & was buried December 1st, 1895 at Holy Trinity, Wingate.

6.6 Hugh Hall christened June 18th, 1855 at Wingate; died August 4th, 1923 at Richmond House, 51 North Rd, Wingate
6.7 Isabella Hall christened May 24th, 1858 at Wingate; died March 5th, 1906 at Wingate
